Functional Nutrition

Meet Sarah Kelly DeVido, MSc, FNTP

Functional Nutrition Therapy Practitioner

I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University with honors and a Master of Science degree from the University of North Carolina - Wilmington. My graduate research resulted in several publications in peer reviewed journals. I worked as a scientist at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for over seven years. My work at NIH was in the field of epigenetics – the study of how the environment affects gene expression.

With an interest in maintaining optimal health, I began investigating how nutrition plays a role in our gene expression (how well our body works to stay healthy). I furthered my nutrition knowledge as a scientific researcher at an Integrative Health and Nutrition Practice for over five years. Here I investigated the scientific literature making connections on how food and supplements can heal the body.

During my time there, the practice I worked for became highly successful and I had the opportunity to collaborate and share my research findings with some of the best in our field, e.g. Dr. Joseph Pizzorno – one of the world's leading authorities on science-based natural/integrative medicine and Isabella Wentz – internationally acclaimed thyroid specialist and licensed pharmacist.

I continue to stay updated on the latest functional nutrition and medicine trends by participating in Nutrigenomic and Integrative Health Conferences and Webinars. I am passionate about helping individuals maximize their health whether it is a high level athlete looking to optimize their performance or an individual wanting to improve their overall energy and well-being.

I am a recipient of the Department of Commerce 2007 Silver Medal for Leadership and I am a member of Phi Beta Kappa. I fuel my passions by spending time with my husband and son boating/kayaking, enjoying nature, traveling, and exercising.

Why Naturopathy

Why Functional Nutrition?

When healing the body with a holistic, functional approach, the body can rebalance from a variety of ailments including digestive issues, fatigue, hormonal imbalances, mental fog, weight issues, sleep disturbances, and autoimmune disorders.

For athletes, by eating a bio-individualized food plan, you will allow yourself to compete at the highest level physically. I will teach you how to fuel your body with the proper foods to perform at an elite level.

Functional Nutrition focuses on healing the body as a whole. Using the latest scientific nutrition research, I will develop a plan that is bio-individualized for your body. There is no one diet or health food for everyone. My background in genetics allows me to delve into a better understanding of each person’s body so we can work together to optimize your health. Not only will we focus on the best types of food to put in your body, but also the right tools to fill your mind, body, and spirit to achieve the best version of you.
